Boy Scout Logan Kidani, with assistance from Hamakua Community Police Officer Joseph Rocha, conducted an Eagle Scout beautification project on Aug. 13 at the Laupahoehoe Point Gym and Ookala bus stop.
Ten volunteers from across the Hamakua district participated in the graffiti clean-up. At the gym, volunteers were eager to help with sanding the wheel chair ramp railings and doors in preparation for painting over the graffiti and refreshing the paint on the doors and railings.
At the Ookala Bus Stop, volunteers assisted with cutting back weeds around the structure, picking up trash, sweeping, and wiping down the walls in preparation for a fresh coat of paint.
The donations of paint and supplies were provided by County of Hawaii, Department of Parks and Recreation, Boy Scout Troop 1 (Paauilo), Shane Muramaru, investigator with the Office of the Prosecutor and Thomas Petry, Laupahoehoe community member.
“At the end of the day, I felt extremely proud of the work we put in to restoring the bus stop and gym,” said event organizer, Kidani.
“We are very appreciative of the tremendous efforts from our volunteers who found value in supporting our community project,” added Officer Rocha.
